Save or splurge? Strong-hold finishing hairsprays

I'll admit, I'm not one to experiment much with my hair. You'll usually find my waist-long strands either blown out straight or in their natural curl form. Either way, it's usually worn down. But with the holiday season approaching, I'm willing to try some different hairstyles. How do I get my hairstyle to last throughout the night? With a strong-hold hairspray, of course!

So I decided to test out two strong hold finishing hairsprays: The pricey Moroccanoil Luminious Strong Hairspray versus the more affordable L'Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Strong Hold Hairspray. What was my verdict?

To be perfectly honest, I really loved the results both sprays gave me. But let me give you my take on each.

Moroccanoil Luminious Strong Hairspray ($21) not only prevented my hair from frizzing up (on a night that was pretty humid), but the argan-infused formula left my strands super soft and shiny, something I haven't experienced with many hairsprays. On Halloween, I decided to go for a 50s themed look and wore my hair in a half up, half down retro style. I sprayed this hairspray all over my head in hopes that my style would last throughout the entire night.  Aside from the amazing shine boosting and anti-frizz benefits, I also really loved the way I was easily able to brush through the curls using a flat paddle brush because the spray didn't leave my tresses stiff or sticky. Another huge plus! My only complaint is that by the middle of the night what had originally been perfectly loose curls had morphed into limp, lifeless waves.

There's a reason why  L'Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Strong Hold Hairspray ($15) has developed such a serious cult following. This drugstore buy leaves my hair with a super soft finish every time. What I love about this legendary hairspray is that is really does provide a strong and flexible hold that literally lasts you all day! I got hooked on this spray when I used it at my cousin's wedding. My hair was styled in gorgeous loose ringlets–and they lasted pretty much the whole night, through a windy outdoor photo shoot and even after hours on the dance floor. Even after breaking a serious sweat attempting to dance the twist, my retro style absolutely stayed in place!

So in the end, I have to go with the L'Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Strong Hold Hairspray. It gave me the exact results I was looking for and all for under 20 bucks!
