We haven't even hit November yet and my skin is already starting to feel the effects of the seasonal changes. Cooler and drier temperatures can really wreak havoc on your skin— believe me, I know! The evidence is written all over my dull, dry face. Is your skin also feeling drier than usual? Don't panic! The key to keeping up with the colder weather is to change up your skin care regimen. Switch cleansers
While gentle cleansers may work during the summer, winter skin requires a lot more moisture. Try cleansing your face with a cream based cleanser like Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Crème Cleanser ($38). This rich, creamy formula gently nourishes your skin using milk, jojoba, shea butter and Vitamins A, C and E.
Exfoliate
Exfoliating is important, especially during the winter months. When it gets cold we tend to load up on thicker and heavier creams to target dryness. But dry skin also means skin cell buildup. Try exfoliating at least once a week with a facial scrub like Goldfaden MD Doctor’s Scrub ($75). This gentle exfoliator helps hydrate your skin while also removing dead skin cells from the surface, resulting in a brighter, healthier-looking complexion!
Use a serum
Layer an antioxidant rich serum under your moisturizer to help fight fine lines and wrinkles, while also intensely moisturizing your skin. I like Lancôme Visionnaire Serum ($67). This deeply hydrating formula also helps even out the skin and diminish the appearance of dark spots–something many Latinas struggle with!
Do an at-home Peel
Winter skin tends to lack luster and radiance. Brighten up your complexion with an at-home peel that contains Vitamin C like Philosophy Resurface Microdelivery Dual- Phase Peel ($68).
Moisturize
This is definitely the time to switch to heavier creams. Try opting for a richer, intensely hydrating facial moisturizer like Dior Capture Totale Crème Haute Nutrition ($135). If you have acne-prone skin you might want to go look for a formula that’s oil-free.
Hydrate your body
Apply an ultra-nourishing cream to help revitalize dry, delicate skin. Look for body lotions that include hydrating ingredients like shea butter, cocoa butter or honey. I love Melvita APICOSMA Body Balm ($32). This rich, creamy body balm is formulated with three honeys (thyme, acacia, orange blossom) that work to intensely moisturize skin, leaving it smooth and radiant. It also smells delicious!
