Lozada's dark brown tresses makes her look radiant and refreshed, perfect for someone trying to start new! I couldn't help but wonder how her colored-treated stands were taking the new dye job. Colored-treated hair is fragile and needs to be handled with complete care or your strands WILL wind up dry, dull, and damaged! So for all the chicas out there that dye their locks, check out a few of these super simple tips to help get your color-treated hair looking shiny, bouncy, and healthier than ever!
Wash less. Washing your hair on a regular basis is one of the main causes of color fade. And yes, it's because of the water! Simply put, every time you wash your hair, water draws color from your strands. So for longer-lasting color, try washing your hair less frequently, like three times a week, rather than every day. Freshen up your locks in between shampoos with a dry shampoo like, Batiste Dry Shampoo ($8).
Pick the right products. Make sure to look for shampoos and conditioners, especially designed for color-treated hair. Regular shampoos and conditioners contain chemicals and fragrances that not only strip hair of its natural oils, but strip the color off as well. These products are also specifically formulated to rejuvenate and moisturize dyed hair. Try Pureology Hydrate Shampoo ($27) and Hydrate Conditioner ($29).
Use a deep conditioning treatment. Even professionally applied color can leave your stands dry and damaged. So it's important to constantly condition them by applying a deeply hydrating hair mask especially designed for color-treated hair at least once a week. Try L'Oréal EverPure Moisture Deep Restorative Masque ($9). This sulfate-free moisturizing formula gently conditions hair without stripping away your color.
Protect strands from the heat. If you heat-style your colored strands than you should ALWAYS be using a heat-protective spray. Hot tools can further damage color treated hair, leaving it dry and coarse. So you don't have to part from the flat iron, try Herbal Essences Set Me Up Heat Protection Spray ($5),
Take care of your hair while you sleep. Did you know that cotton tends to absorb natural oils out of your hair? Try sleeping with a cotton-free, silk pillowcase instead. You'll wake up in the morning with smooth and manageable hair!
