World’s oldest papá is almost a century old!

A 96-year-old man is the world's oldest dad… again! Ramajit Raghav, of India, held that title two years ago when he was 94 and had his first child. Last week he had a second child with his wife of 17 years and nobody can stop talking about his record-breaking virility. In fact, a lot of the people in his village are disputing the idea that Raghav and his wife are the biological parents of the two children they claim their own.

For his part, Raghav–who used to be a wrestler in his younger years–has explained that his healthy lifestyle is what has allowed him to become a dad at such an old age.

I only know one person who's very close to being 100 years old: mi abuelita. She says she's 97 (though she's really 98) and luckily she's in pretty good shape. Not a lot of people get to be that age and enjoy good health. But if you ask her how she's done it, she'll tell you something similar to Raghav: all it takes is a healthy life, with a balanced diet, no smoking or drinking, a lot of walking and even more laughter. ¿Será?

Even though Raghav's feat is truly amazing, it's sad to think that both of his kids will most likely not get to enjoy their father for a long time. I mean, Raghav seems to be doing fine, but the reality is that the odds are against him and it's highly unlikely that he'll be around to see his children grow up.

While my dad was nowhere nearly as old as Raghav when he had me, at 50, he was still pretty old in comparison to my friends' dads. Once the age difference between us sunk in, I realized I probably wouldn't have him around for a long time either. Luckily, he did see me grow up, graduate college, and get married. Sadly, though, my children didn't get to meet him.
