Recall: Kellogg’s Bite-Size Frosted and Unfrosted bite-sized Mini Wheats Cereal

If you're a big cereal lover like me, this disappointing news will concern you. Kellogg's has recalled Bite Size Frosted and Unfrosted Mini-Wheats cereal due to a manufacturing error which left packages contaminated with metal meshThe 3.2 million boxes being recalled include both Frosted and Unfrosted Bite-Sized Mini-Wheats varieties ranging in size from single-serve bowls to 70-ounce cartons and have a "used by" date between April 1, 2013 and Sept. 21, 2013.

Thankfully no injuries resulting from ingestion of the cereal have been reported, but it's not comforting to know that the company has spent over $100 million this year simply on fixing problems with their supply and this current issue will cost them another $30 million.

I love that I can have cereal for breakfast, as a snack, a super quick dinner (don't judge me), but I'm not happy to hear that my Frosted Mini-Wheats are tainted and can potentially harm me. All these recent recalls are really upsetting me because it's mostly the foods I enjoy that are affected. The peanut butter recall is not sitting well with me (no, I didn't have salmonella infested PB), because that's a spread I rely on daily that I pair with just about everything. Now cereal?! Come on, manufacturing companies, can we please be a bit more cautious when packaging food?

Just last year, Kellogg's had to recall 28 million boxes of popular cereal brands Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Froot Loops and Honey Smack for a foul odor and taste from which many reported experiencing nausea and diarrhea. Yuck! That's not what I had in mind as part of my complete breakfast!

If you have any concerns about this recall—especially if your kids love their Frosted Wheats, Kellogg's is telling customers to reach out to them. They are offering consumers replacement cereal or if you have any questions, you can contact Kellogg's consumer hotline at 800-962-1413, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern time.
