Nothing seems to pull a look together quite like a bold red lipstick. Even so, ruby red shades don't always flatter my naturally tan complexion. That's why I was totally feeling the deep orangey red pout Salma Hayek was sporting at "Here Comes The Boom" premiere this Tuesday. True red tends to flatter fairer complexions, but for warm medium and dark skin tones, a coral-red or orange-red shade is always a much better fit. Step 1: Start off by picking an orange based red lipstick like Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Coromandel ($33) or __CoverGirl Queen Collection Lipcolir in Into the Red ($7).

Step 2: For a polished look, start off by tracing your lips with a lipliner pencil that matches your lipstick shade.
Step 3: Don't swipe on straight from the tube. Use a lipstick brush to apply, starting in the middle of your lips and moving out to the corners. This gives your lips a much neater look.
Step 4: Keep the rest of your face subdued. With bold lips, you don't want to overwhelm you face with dark shadows and too much blush. Instead just apply a liquid liner to your upper lash line (a subtle cat-eye is fine) and a couple of coats of mascara, and you're good to go!
