Minnesota bar sells beer, liquor…and pregnancy tests?!

When going to a bar, probably the last thing you expect to see while there is a pregnancy test. Well, not anymore!  A Minnesota bar called Pub 500 is changing that by installing a pregnancy test dispenser in the women's bathroom.

No, I'm not joking!

Now, patrons looking to settle any lingering "Am I?" questions before downing some alcohol can just pop into the ladies room, swipe their credit card, and buy a test for only $3. Why? Apparently, Jody Allen Crowe, founder of the nonprofit Healthy Brains for Children, suggested the installation of the dispense to bar owner, Tom Frederick, as a way to "put awareness on the point of consumption" and attempt to reduce the occurrence of fetal alcohol syndrome.

Um, call me old-fashioned, but I'm pretty sure that the last place I would ever want to take a pregnancy test is in the dirty restroom of some random bar filled with drunken patrons. Seriously, nooo thank you!

Still, even I have to admit that there are some things about the machine that actually do benefit women. First of all, the tests are way, way cheaper–less than half of what you'd usually find them for at a drugstore or pharmacy. And for those who feel embarrassed or shy, it's more private to go into a bathroom than stand at the front of a crowded line holding the test.

Plus, while I'm not sure how effective it would be to prevent women from binging while pregnant (it seems like if you're determined to drink, you will regardless, I mean, you're at a bar), I think seeing the pregnancy tests in the bathroom could serve as a great visual reminder for women to engage in safe sex, no matter how many drinks they might have already had!
