In case you needed any more proof that females really do run the world, Forbes just releated their list of the 100 Most Powerful Women–and I am proud to say that 8 inspiring Latinas made the cut!
The list examines women from all over the globe, not just the United States, and ranks them based on three measures: money, media, and impact. The amazing ladies chosen are those at the forefront of their fields, from politics to nonprofits and entertainment to fashion.
Taking a look at the ranking, I was thrilled to see that some of my favorite Latina celebrities were reconized, as well as a few powerful global leaders from Latin American countries. They are all so inspiring, not to mention such an orgullo for our community! Check out who made the list and why below:
Dilma Rouseff
At number 3 on the list, the President of Brazil–one of the world's largest economies–is one of the most powerful and influential Latinas in the world. Rousseff's groundbreaking work has earned her an approval rating of 77 percent and she is expected to be reelected in 2014.
Maria das Graças Silva Foster
The CEO of Petrobras-Petróleo Brasil is number 20 on the list. Her company produces 91 percent of Brazil's oil and 90 percent of its natural gas, and has revenues over $130 billion.
Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner
As the President of Argentina, Fernandez de Kirchner earns the 16th spot on the list. Under her leadership, the economy has grown dramatically, pension and child welfare benefits have increased, and the poverty has declined.
Jennifer Lopez
With earnings of $52 million and projects in almost every type of industry, from film and television to clothing and fragrance, Lopez has earned her place at number 38. This isn't the first time she made a Forbes list though–she was also number 1 on their Celebrity 100 list.
Shakira
Two spots behind Lopez is fellow Latina superstar Shakira, at number 40. Having sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, Forbes calls the singer "globally influential." Upcoming projects for her include a performance in Azerbaijan during the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2012 and she is reportedly closing a $60 million deal between former record label Sony and concert producer Live Nation for her next three albums and tours.
Rosalia Mera
With a net worth of $4.5 billion, Mera is the richest woman in Spain and number 54 on the list. She and her former founded Inditex, the parent company of the popular Zara retail stores.
Sofia Vergara
At number 75, Vergara is the highest paid female actress on TV and a co-founder of a talent management company, LatinWE. She also has endorsments with Pepsi and Covergirl.
Gisele Bundchen
Considered to be the world's most powerful supermodel, Bundchen falls at number 83 on the list. Between modeling gigs, a skincare line, and endorsement deals with Pantene, Esprit and Versace, the model earned about $45 million this year.
