Losing a child is terrible for any parent, but Connecticut engineer Gary Galka had an extremely unique way of dealing with the grief. He began __creating devices that allowed him to contact his daughter after she'd passed away.

Yup, that's right! After his daughter, Melissa, tragically died in a car accident in 2004, Galka says she began reaching out to the family by ringing doorbells and switching lights on and off. Now eight years later, he has invented, promoted, and sold over 30 different "paranormal detection devices."
But talking to someone beyond the grave doesn't come cheap. Some of Galka's products, like his Mel Meter line, which was "designed exclusively for paranormal enthusiasts," run up to $240! He donates one-third of his profits to local bereavement groups.
I could not imagine the pain of losing your child and while I'm not a big believer in ghosts or paranormal activity, I completely understand Galka's desire to connect with his daughter. That being said, I don't think I'd ever buy his products, especially considering they're so pricey!

I mean, why do you even need one? If you want to talk to a loved one that has passed away, you can visit their grave or even just talk to them when you have a quiet minute alone. I've also heard that many speak to their deceased relatives along with, or in lieu of, saying prayers.

But even besides talking, I personally think that the best way of connecting with a late family member or friend is simply by cherishing the memories you have of them and living in a way that would make them proud–no devices needed.
