We all know that fast food is pretty much the worst thing you can eat, right? Studies come out time and again about the benefits of eating more fruits and vegetables and how fattening food contributes to a lot of ailments, like heart disease and diabetes—both of which are largely present and growing in the Latino community.
When we're really sick (because good food can't cure everything, right?), we go to a hospital to get fixed up. But there's a new trend that seems to be confusing everything that we know about hospitals being where you go to get cured: the growth of fast food restaurants in hospital cafeterias.

What exactly is going on here? When I go to a hospital, I expect to see a lot of clean, sanitized areas, a bunch of sick people and, well, hospital food. Hospital food isn't really known for being good. In fact, it's usually classified as pretty bland and boring. I'd like to see some better options in hospital cafeterias, for those that work there and visit family. But that doesn't mean that I want to see a big M serving French fries and Big Macs. Maybe those have more flavor than a boring old chicken breast, but they aren't doing us any favors by blurring the lines between health and not-so-good food.
Now, that's not to say I'm completely against McDonald's. Every once in a while I'll fall victim to their Chicken McNuggets but, for the most part, I try not to have any fast food. It's greasy and it has a lot of calories so, while I very much believe in moderation, I keep my indulgences to a minimum.

A fast food chain in a hospital, though? That just doesn't belong. Other chains besides McDonald's that have invaded what should be the healthiest buildings in the country include Pizza Hut, Subway, Chick-fil-A and more. This is NOT acceptable, though. Fast food and health simply do not mix and having fast food chains invade hospital cafeterias can only lead to more unhealthy eating habits, more people ending up sick and back in the hospital. And that's something we can't tolerate.
Have you ever eaten in a McDonald's in a hospital?
