The what-makes-a Mami-happy list

I seldom get the time to lie down for 20 minutes during the day. In fact, I never do.

So the other day when I was visiting my family in Mexico, I was able to lie in a hammock for twenty minutes–without any interruptions–and I got really happy.

In fact I got so, so very happy that I used the time to put together a list (in my mind) of the things that make me–-sorry for being so redundant–happy.

The list started of course with "lying alone for twenty minutes in a hammock"

And the rest of the list is:

My kids, my kids laughter, my husband, my husband laughter, my family's happiness, when my kids tell me they love me, when my husband tells me he loves me, when my kids make me laugh, when my husband makes me laugh…

When I have a good conversation, when I have an even better conversation, when I have a laughter attack that comes with tears of joy…

When I make a good meal, when I make a good meal and others enjoy it, good food in general and every time I eat oysters, crabs, jamón serrano, cheeses, fondue, yellowtail sashimi, pomodoro pasta, barbacoa, chiles en nogada, salsa verde, soup dumplings, chicken tikka masala, among others…

The beach, the mountains, walking barefoot in the grass, swimming at the beach with little waves, heated swimming pools, the farmer's market, tropical fruits, berries, the snow, fireplaces, reading a good book, writing a good story, getting inspired, having a good idea…

Having an even better idea, understanding technology, making decisions, making really good decisions, learning something new…

Smart and amazing women, smart and amazing men, good movies, good photography, good design, art, modern art, museum visits without kids, fashion magazines, online shopping, sales, bigger sales, doing a yoga class, doing a yoga glass and actually relaxing, breaking a good sweat, taking a long shower without interruptions…

Comfortable high heels, pretty and comfortable shoes in general (very hard to find)…

Traveling, visiting some place new, The New York Times, El País newspaper…

Good coffee, the smell of coffee filling my home, new notebooks, muji fine point pens, art supplies, making collages with my daughter, watching movies with my kids, the smell of clean linens…

My kids taking a shower, when my kids fall asleep, when my kids eat their vegetables, lilies, roses, cherry blossoms, the arrival of the spring, the arrival of the summer, sitting outdoors, good weather…

I think I could continue with the list, but I will spare the reader–for this already should give you a good idea. You should also know that some of the things in this list make me happier than others. However, I think that just being able to do a list this long, means that I'm mostly happy and even if sometimes I don't feel that way and there's not a hammock around. there's always my children's laughter to remind me.

What is on your list?
