Quick and easy ways to de-clutter your purse!

My purses are always a giant mess. I like to carry huge bags that are half the size of my body and fill them full of items that I think I might eventually need. I swear, on some days I am as prepared for a natural disaster as I am for a typical work day. Wallet, keys, iPod? Got it. Advil, band-aids, cough drops? Check. Cereal bars and 100 calorie snack packs? All accounted for. And the list just goes on and on.

Lucky for me, I recently came across some tips on how to clean out your handbags straight from organizational experts, Stacey Platt and Sarah Hayon. Here are some easy steps to successfully de-cluttering your purse!

  1. Designate spots for all necessities:  Make your life easier by putting your go-to items in the same place in your bag every day. That way, you'll know that your phone is in the front pocket and your keys are in the side one. Do the same with your wallet so that you always know where your cash, loose change, receipts, and credit cards are.
  2. Group similar items together: Use zippered bags to put items of the same type together. For example, all cosmetics should go in one bag while lotions and antibacterial gels can go in another. This keeps everything organized and also makes it easier switching from one bag to another. I would suggest buying transparent pouches so that you can see what holds which items without unzipping them.
  3. Organize at the end of the day: Throughout my busy day, I generally just toss random change and other miscellaneous items back into my purse after I use them. But taking the time to return everything to its rightful place at the end of the day will save you the hassle of rummaging around in your bag later on.

Aren't these tips super helpful? At least now I know where to start! For the sake of saving myself time and effort in the future, I think I'll make the organization of my purses an immediate project.
