Latino Designers to watch during New York Fashion Week 2012

Whenever I watch Project Runway, I’m always the most excited to see the last episode. Not because I’m always super interested to see who wins the show, but more because I am dying to see the models strut down the runway in gorgeous clothes. There’s something about Fashion Week in New York that makes me crave new clothes more than usual.

Although I’m a fan of all kinds of designers, there’s something particularly special about seeing some of our culture’s best stylists new fashions. From classic renowned designers like Carolina Herrera to experienced ones like Narciso Rodriguez to newcomers like Gabriela Prezutti of Candela, there’s plenty of designers to choose from during this year’s New York Fashion Week.

Argentine Designers including Cardon, Cora Groppo, Desiderata, Mariana Dappiano and Min Agostini, who all bring unique elements and interpretations of their culture.

Gabriela Prezutti of Candela brings together her urban environment in New York City with her Brazilian, Argentine and Uruguayan ranch upbringing in modern gaucho influences.

Carlos Miele transcends the influences of his Brazilian roots by reconstructing them for new audiences and has dedicated the last 9 years to his work in fashion.

Womenswear Designer of the Year in 2004, Carolina Herrera has been designing elegant, intricate and simply beautiful clothes for women for the past 25 years. 

Carmen Marc Valvo set out on a path that would unknowingly lead him to found his label and to his great love of bringing elegant evening wear to every woman’s life.

Spanish brothers Custo and David Dalmau created label Custo Barcelona, where they design clothes Ibiza-inspired clothes like printed tops, colorful dresses and more.

Colombian-born designer Juan Carlos Obando stands out thanks to his signature style of bold colors and translucent flowy material partnered with shiny metallics. 

With extensive design experience working for some of the best designers in the world, Cuban-American Narciso Rodriguez has redefined modern global fashion. 

Fueled by his passion for glamour, Rafael Cennamo has become renowned for his elegant couture designs and the strong vision he brings to the world of eveningwear.
