Lilliana partnered with Pottery Barn Kids.
When designing Santiago's nursery, Lilliana partnered with Pottery Barn Kids and made sure to include organic and Green Guard-certified items to keep the space as free from toxins and safe for the baby as possible.
The sleeping area is serene.
Lilliana and her husband, Patrick, did not find out their baby's sex before he was born, so when she designed the nursery, she chose a neutral color palette that created a very soft, serene-feeling space. "I will say that not knowing actually ended up being such an advantage because I felt like I had more options. I feel like it definitely opened up the possibility to expand into different color palettes and to lean into different overall themes and designs that were really unexpected. That's what allowed something so beautiful to happen in the space," Lilliana told E!.
It was important to her for the nursery to be an extension of the rest of the home.
Lilliana chose to coordinate the nursery with the decor in the rest of her home. "The nursery is just as much for the parents as it is for the kids, especially when the kids are still so little. I think a nursery should just be an extension of the other spaces in your home," she told E! That idea is evident in the photos she sent us, which showcase the modern and sophisticated decor elements she chose, like the throw pillows, area rug, and larger furniture pieces.
And she wanted it to grow with Santiago.
Santiago is tiny now, but Lilliana recognizes that he'll grow fast, and she wanted to create a space that will transition well as he does. "I wanted a room that you wouldn't have to worry about changing in two years or four years. To me, this is a design that we are committed to and I'm so thankful to their team [Pottery Barn]. They were just so wonderful to work with. We created it together," she explained.
Lilliana was incredibly thoughtful in designing the space.
Lilliana was able to foresee that she would be spending a lot of time in Santiago's nursery and wanted to make it a space that she and her husband could hang out. "I wanted a space where my husband and I could spend a lot of time together and be really comfortable. That's what we ended up creating there," she told E!
She infused her culture with subtle elements.
"To me, obviously I'm half Mexican and I'm half Puerto Rican. I wanted to incorporate an element of that. I choose a piece of art that could really incorporate who I am. There's an Otomi textile that hangs right above his crib. That was gifted to me by mom. Otomi is this very timeless Mexican tradition. It gets passed on generation to generation and I love the look of it, but I also like that my mom gave it to me and it hangs above him. It's almost like it's protecting him and she's almost watching over him," Lilliana explained.
Books were used functionally and decoratively.
Lilliana used children's books and a few select toys that Santiago will actually use in the near future as decor elements that add adorable pops of color to the nursery, and she'll be able to swap them out as he gets older.
Books are so important.
"Reading is such an important part of my life and a big part of Patrick's life. That's something that we want to pass onto Santi, so we really wanted to build a library for him in his room so there's no escaping the books. We used these beautiful Pottery Barn acrylic wall shelves to create a beautiful book wall that reflects our commitment to learning and creates so much color and vibrancy to the room. Any little kid would be naturally drawn to that corner," Lilliana said about choosing to incorporate books into the nursery design.
The toys double as decor as well.
Although one day soon toys like this neutral-colored shape-sorter truck will surely be scattered across the nursery floor, at least while Santi is a newborn they're serving double duty as decor for his bedroom.
Style definitely meets function in this nursery.
The changing table Lilliana chose for Santi's nursery is so beautiful and sophisticated, we didn't realize what it was at first. It simply looks like a gorgeous piece of furniture at first glance, and with the mirror above it, mamá can check to make sure she doesn't look too sleep-deprived before leaving the room.
The nursery details are precious.
While much of the decor in the nursery is aesthetically pleasing for adults, Lilliana made sure to include a number of adorable details that remind us that this is in fact a baby's room, like these beautiful wooden blocks.
But most importantly, it's safe for Santi.
Most importantly, though, while all of the furniture is super stylish, it's also safe for the baby. The changing table has that nice, wide ledge and a comfortable changing pad, the crib has a firm mattress and is devoid of dangerous soft bedding, and there are no potential choking hazards lying around.
And fun, too.
There are also some totally cute and age-appropriate toys in Santi's nursery. Babies need to have interesting things to look at around them to aid in brain development, and these stuffed animals with bright, contrasting colors are perfect. They look good, too!
It's an incredible space for her family to bond.
There's no doubt that Lilliana has created an incredible space for her little family to bond and that they'll be able to enjoy for years to come. Santi is a very lucky little guy to have such a talented and thoughtful mamá.
And Lilliana looks pretty happy, too!
Look at that smile! Clearly Lilliana is filled with joy from baby Santiago and spending time with him in his incredible nursery. Lilliana is such an inspiration both as a stylist and as a mother.
