How did the whole tradition of decorating Christmas trees get started? Many believe the tradition of Christmas trees dates back to the 16th century and started in Germany. For a long time, the tradition wasn't embraced in the United States because it was seen as a pagan practice. Then, around the 1820s, people slowly started embracing Christmas trees. Fast forward to today when Christmas trees are a huge symbol of the winter holiday.
