Hallaquitas are first cousins of tamales. They are made with corn flour (the same used to make arepa dough), wrapped in dried cornhusks. Unlike tamales, hallaquitas are not filled, but are eaten with grilled meat, poultry and fish, or for breakfast with butter, cream or cheese. Here's my abuela's delicious recipe.
